Frequently asked questions...

Photo of Murray Entertainer ...looks superb doesn't it! Thanks to Richard F. and his crew for this shot of one of their favourite mooring spots enjoyed over their recent holiday.

Perfect river conditions at Blanchetown!

River conditions are normal, with a slow flow rate making river travel and mooring so easy again.

It is now time to plan for a fabulous winter break too...not that far away...and one of our favourite times to be on the river. With a great range of boats, we have something for everyone.

We will also be welcoming Reflections to our fleet in July. Reflections has 4 queen bedrooms and two ensuite bathrooms, so will be ideal for families or couples - and we will be offering special 4 person prices for people wanting to have the bonus of their own bathroom.

Our guests at 17 QED Lakeside at Barmera, have loved the accommodation and the beauty of the lake. Best of all are the sunsets though, they are simply amazing so give us a call to secure a booking. Ideal for a special time away to celebrate a birthday or anniversary!

We love sharing our special parts of the Riverland!

FAQ's

What are water levels like at Blanchetown?

Terrific - we are above Lock 1 so our water level remains constant.

I've never driven a houseboat before, do I need a special licence?

All you need is a full car licence or boat licence and be over 21 years of age.

Our instructors really enjoy teaching new clients how to handle the boats, and even show you how to easily tie knots for your mooring ropes.

How do I contact the marina when we are out on the river?

All of our houseboats are fitted with a mobile phone which is attached to an external aerial to increase coverage. Most areas along our section of the river have good coverage, but if you want to ensure coverage overnight, just check your signal before mooring as some of our magnificent cliifs may interfere with coverage.

What do I need to bring?

All linen, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, cleaning materials, tea towels and toliet paper are supplied, as well as glad wrap, alfoil and bin liners.

During warmer months we suggest bringing a beach towel as the water is fine for swimming (we recommend always wearing a life jacket though) Don't forget your sunscreen and insect repellant!

You will need to bring all your food and drinks (rain water is on board), toiletries, cd's, dvd's, books and games. If you need to restock during your holiday, there are shops at Morgan and Waikerie.

How far can I travel?

The average cruising speed for houseboats is 6 - 7 km per hour, so where ever you go, it is at a slow and leisurely speed. The marina is located around the 277km mark (measured from the Murray Mouth), Morgan is at 320km and Waikerie 382km. It takes about 7 hours to travel to Morgan, and 17 hours to Waikerie. Most people find they don't go much further than Morgan though, it is so peaceful travelling for a few hours each day, then just tying up for the afternoon and relaxing. There is enough fuel on board though for a return trip to Waikerie if desired.

What does a Fruit Fly free Zone mean?

The Riverland is a Fruit free Zone, which means you are not allowed to bring any home grown fruit and vegetables into the region, as protection for the thriving horticultural industry. You are able to bring store bought fruit and vegetables though, as long as you have a valid receipt to verify purchase.

Where do I park my car when I am on holiday?

Our private property overlooks our marina, and you park your cars opposite the moorings. We have plenty of room for cars, trailers and even caravans, and the only access is past our residence.

I would love to try fishing but don't have any gear, can you help?

We have shrimp nets on board the boats for you to catch bait, and we can hire you fishing tackle and rods. It's so relaxing to throw a line in the water, and wait for that first bite!

Can I kayak on the Murray?

Absolutely, kayaking is so much fun and the Murray has many backwaters and lagoons to discover. It is important to always wear a life jacket and be aware of river conditions and currents though, as it can be hard work paddling against a strong flow! Please remember you are responsible for your own and your children's safety, so be water wise at all times.
