Have an extra special River Murray houseboat holiday experience with the team from Griffens Marina...

          * You start your holiday from a secluded waterfront marina with secure parking

         * There is easy access for loading and unloading your vehicle, just hop on board...

         * Receive excellent instruction and information about your houseboat and the river

Travel in style on the best of the Murray - uncrowded and scenic with loads of good moorings

The lock system along the River Murray controls the flow of water, and being above Lock 1 means there is always plenty of water for houseboats to travel safely. The magnificent cliffs that line the river, not only provide a haven for nesting birds, and other river life, they also hold many secrets in the form of fossilised shells and ancient sea creatures.

The marina:

Our hire boat fleet and private houseboat moorings on the Murray River are nestled below limestone cliffs, only a casual 90 minute drive from Adelaide through the Barossa Valley. Quick and easy to get to, there is flat lawned access to your houseboat, which makes loading and unloading houseboats a breeze.

As soon as you leave the marina after your comprehensive instruction, your houseboat adventure begins. Don and Miriam Griffen and the experienced team will even point out some extra special mooring spots ideal for houseboats, and are only too happy to answer all your questions. There are even specially designated areas in river towns for you to moor easily!

First timers?  Fantastic, we will make sure you are fully familiar with the houseboat before you leave...

Our aim is for you to have the most memorable houseboat holiday possible. We can even help you arrange transfers from Adelaide, or if you are travelling with your caravan, we can provide safe, private parking. As an extra service, our family boats and small boats are pet friendly, so if you have a furry member of the family that needs to travel with you, please enquire when booking.

Where to travel...

You travel upstream from Griffens Marina towards the historic town of Morgan, approximately 7 hours away, and discover one of Australia's earliest river ports. The town is a delight for anyone interested in museums, antiques and heritage walks, and it even has two hotels close to the river front for those wanting to dine out. You may choose to travel a little further upstream and visit the Cadell wetlands, featuring unique varieties of bottle brush, or venture up to Qualco and Lock 2. Of course you may not even get as far as Morgan, just go where you want to go...

What to do...

Tie up for the afternoon and throw a fishing line off the back of your houseboat, or lounge under the top deck canopy reading a book while sipping a glass of wine! For nature lovers there are a variety of river birds and wild life to view, and wetlands to explore - we can even hire you a kayak. Or you can just marvel at the majestic river red gums standing like sentinels at the edge of the river and the changing colours of the magnificent cliffs.

By the way...

The PS Pyap, built in 1896, operated as a hawking vessel along the Murray and used to tie up at our riverbank for the locals to come and buy goods from. You can still see the word Pyap engraved on the old river redgum next to the hire boats.

Just imagine you are a Riverboat Captain as you follow the same route as the old river barges and paddleboats... you may even tie up at one of their favoured spots!

Relax, unwind and finish your day on the top deck of a Griffens Marina houseboat watching a truly breathtaking sunset...

All you have to do is choose the hire houseboat that suits your needs, and give us a call, it's so easy...
